Parent Friends

I've posted before about our friends who had their first child in May. She's now three months old, and we still haven't seen her. Nor have we seen our friends (I'll call them Kathy and Bill to protect the innocent).

Kathy and Bill used to be really good friends of ours, but I can't say I didn't see this coming. My husband (let's call him Mike) has called Bill several times to try to get him out for a beer or a baseball game and keeps seeming surprised when he says no. We've even tried inviting ourselves over to see the baby, but no.

But I must admit that given that Bill was a groomsman in our wedding, and we've always been pretty close to them (as well as the rest of our friends), I was pretty surprised when Bill called me today about something business-related and left a message saying, "Hi, this is Bill, Mike's friend."

Mike's friend?! Jeez. Apparently I can't even be trusted to know who Bill is anymore. And since when is he not my friend as well?

Sigh. The great divide begins. Another set of friends we hardly ever see as it is are now having a baby as well, and they're due in December. I doubt that friendship will fare much better.

Breeder friends are so hard to connect with. I have a few but we mostly have limited interaction.

Their lifestyle is foreign to me and I don't get excite about their impending babies so we're not too compatible usually.

My husband and I are beginning to deal with this now. We're approaching the mid-20's and just about everyone we know who's married has been hit with the baby-rabies. Whenever we find out another couple is expecting, we just sort of sigh "Another one bites the dust." It's rough though, which is why I'm so grateful for these blogs which allow me to connect with like-minded people.

Mel- it's so weird to hit that age, isn't it? I'm 27 and my husband is 28, and I just can't believe that our friends are having BABIES. Thankfully, the majority of married couples we know are still nowhere near that, so I believe we've still got several happy years with most of our friends before they *all* start going the Way of the Breeder.

Yep, I've dealt with this. I have one friend who I'm still compatible with and get along with, but I wouldn't call her a breeder. She doesn't automatically love all kids, and doesn't ever ask nosy rude questions like "When are you going to have kids?"

But she never has any free time now. Not that I have a lot of it, but she never has ANY.
