My 15 Minutes of Fame

Childfree Corner will soon be coming to a New York Observer article near you.

I was interviewed recently for an Observer piece on the current baby-crazed culture. The author wanted to include the childfree perspective, and contacted me via this blog. I will be very interested to see how the article turns out.

What amazes me about this is that being childfree is newsworthy. I'm kind of of two minds about that. I'm thrilled that the childfree perspective is getting more of a voice, and very grateful that I'm able to participate in that. But at the same time... isn't it sobering to realize that we're such a minority that our having made this decision is actually considered news? Not just to our families and friends, but the kind that's reported in a newspaper?

Hopefully, the more we spread the word about our lifestyle, the less unusual we'll seem to everyone.

News Flash:
"Fertile Woman Chooses To Not Breed"
Story at 10.

Really, it is amazing that the idea that certain people chose not to breed is so amazing that articles and news stories must be written about it, even though it's been going on FOREVER.

My opinion is we will always be a minority community. I dont know exact stats but majority of people will breed either unplanned/unwanted (wild sex) or planned/wanted.

We are beating the nature (Reproduction) and meeting our goals and objectives.

I am working on a television story about young men in their 20s who have chosen to have vasectomies or who are considering sterilization in order to have a child-free life.

If you know someone who fits this criteria please have them contact ahanford@kingworld.com

Do you know if the story has run yet?

I agree, it's good that someone reached out to get a childfree person's perspective, but I wish we weren't considered so strange and rare that it a reporter thought a childfree person's perspective would be newsworthy.

Please post it here, can't wait to read it!

The CF lifestyle is definitely getting more press these days and the lifestyle itself is getting more popular. Pretty soon we won't be the anomoly anymore.
